Idol Radio Show
The Idol Radio Show is the show that launched an entire Internet radio network!
On Tuesday, January 23, 2007, the Idol Radio Show, hosted by Sir Darryl, made its debut on Blog Talk Radio. Originally intended to be a 20 minute, one night a week show, the show's popularity resulted in a quick expansion. By the time Alan, aka the Token White Guy, joined the show three weeks later, the program had expanded to one-hour, four nights a week. While Tuesdays and Wednesdays continued to be focused on that night's American Idol happenings, Mondays and Thursdays were dedicated to talking about AI in general. By the time AI crowned Jordin Sparks as the Season 6 Champion, both Darryl and Alan knew they had a hit on their hands.
Shortly after American Idol ended for the season, Sir Darryl expanded the scope of the Idol Radio Show by talking about every day life (or, at least, life as Darryl knows it) and interviewing people outside of the AI franchise. As the show grew in scope, Darryl realized the need to split the Idol Radio Show into two shows. He spun off the expanded show into a two-hour, daytime talk show, leaving the original show as a January - May, AI-themed show. The split also coincided with the creation of the All Digital Radio Network. With two shows now using the same name, the original show adopted the Idol Radio Show: AI Edition name for Season 2. In addition, Alan took over as lead host of the show and Charlie Spillers joined as a regular commentator.
Prior to the start of Season 3, the Idol Radio Show dropped the "AI Edition" portion of the name when Sir Darryl changed his daytime show to the Sir Darryl Radio Experience. In addition, the show teamed up with IdolBlogLive.com so that listeners could interact with Alan and Darryl in real-time during the show through the site's Shoutbox feature. IdolBlogLive.com Administrators Queen Angie and CB, along with long-time listener ChuckRitt, joined Charlie Spillers as regular show commentators.
Season 4 of the Idol Radio Show saw several changes. First, Charlie Spillers left his role as a regular commentator to focus on starting an acting career in Hollywood. The cast of misfits from Myndjack Radio joined Alan for the first six Tuesdays of the season while Deb from Vote For The Worst joined Alan for the first three live Wednesday performances. In addition, IdolBlogLive.com owner DJSlim joined Queen Angie, CB, and ChuckRitt as regular show commentators.
Now in its fifth season, the Idol Radio Show is seeing its biggest makeover to date. The show now has a Facebook Fan Page, a Twitter account, and a new Website. In addition, the show moves to Wednesdays and Thursdays to coincide with the American Idol day changes. As if that wasn't enough, the show becomes a year-round show this season and will cover X Factor every September - December, with DJSlim joining Alan as co-host during these months. In the summer, Alan will have a rotating roster of co-hosts as he covers a variety of entertainment news and shows, including America's Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance. Queen Angie, CB, and ChuckRitt will all return this season to give their two-cents worth as well.
